What Italian scouts say about new Chelsea star Kalidou Koulibaly

Chelsea new boy Kalidou Koulibaly has received rave reviews during his time at former club Napoli.

The Blues have completed the signing of defender Koulibaly this summer from Napoli for £33million which looks like a bargain.

Aged 31, he moved to Stamford Bridge at the height of his powers.

For some, he appears to be the desperately needed Antonio Rudiger replacement in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Quality Kalidou Koulibaly

A head scout for Italy’s Serie A league has praised Koulibaly in a report to ESPN.

A Scout leader wrote: “What weak points? It’s difficult [to find any]. He’s one of the best at his job. He keeps getting better, especially on the mental side of his game – even lapses in focus are now rare.

Koulibaly, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League for many years, will finally get the chance to prove himself in England.

The powerful centre-back fits the profile of someone who can succeed with his pace, strength and reading of the game. It’s very exciting for Blues fans to hear that the Senegal international keeps improving .

There is a minority who fear the former Napoli centre-half is over 30, but they should just look to what 37-year-old Thiago Silva is doing in Chelsea’s back line.

Proven talent

Yes, there is the little cloud hanging over Koulibaly, it is that he has not yet played in the Premier League.

However, there’s no denying how brilliant he was during an eight-year spell at Napoli, which notably proved himself on the European stage on a regular basis.

His new manager was singing his praises recently in an interview, so expect him to play a major role in the XI when the new season arrives early next month.
